I don’t actually have a “favourite”, as each of the renewable energy sources have their place in the way we use energy. Solar power is very important for electricity production which we need to power our homes, but it isn’t so good when it comes to transport. Solar cells aren’t efficient enough and batteries are too heavy at the moment to store enough energy to match the internal combustion engine, not to mention the amount of time it takes for them to recharge. My colleagues in the aviation industry are always telling me that solar and batteries will never be a solution for air transport.
We’ll always need liquid fuels for transport and that’s why I’m researching them. Biofuels, however, do come indirectly from the sun because the plants we use as the resources need sunlight for energy and growth.
I think we really need a good mix of renewable energy sources for it to be successful. Wind and Solar are the least damaging to the environment. Hydro is also very clean and produces a lot, but causes damage when they first build the dams and flood areas to make lakes.
