The chemistry i do is based around using carbon dioxide (a greenhouse gas) and small molecules such as 1,3 butadiene (a cancer causing waste product of petrochemical industry) to make a useful products such as ‘green’ or ‘carbon neutral’ polymers or plastics.

Making electricity from sunlight is important as it does not produce any CO2. Too much CO2 in the atmosphere causes climate change, which can effect our weather, how our crops grow and could damage wildlife habitats.

Using renewable energy such as solar energy is an important way of reducing the amount of CO2 we put into the atmosphere.

My research is to develop a device which can recycle the CO2 into useful fuels, which can minimize the green house effect and provide an renewable energy. Therefore, my research should be environmental friendly.
